On the Path of fire..
After all the hype surrounding Agneepath, I thought I'd take the plunge and go watch it in the cinemas. Not because I really really wanted to watch it, but for a change my dad wanted to see why it was such a big hit; And since I wasn't the one compelling him to watch it, I wouldn't have to bear the brunt of his dislike in the end.
So here is my critic review on the movie..
For those of you who have watched the original one, you should know that this version holds the same concept of revenge while at the same time changing the story to a great extent. This itself negates almost all the comparison you would try to justify with the Amitabh Bachchan starrer. The characters are the same with the addition of the charming pimp Rauf Lala played by Rishi Kapoor and exclusion of Mithun Chakraborty's role. According to me, this movie is definitely a revisit to the earlier Hindi movie tales where you have a villain and you have a hero. Whatever happens in between and whoever comes in between amplifies these two characters and that's the End of Story.
The portrayal of the bitter sweet revenge and how the protagonist works towards it is commendable though it gets a bit dragging in between. As for the characters, hats off to Sanjay Dutt as Kancha Cheena and Rishi Kapoor as Rauf Lala. Honestly I didn't like Hrithik; to me, he hasn't given justice to the character. He either cried a lot, breathed a lot, or flexed a lot! But that ANGER just wasn't a LOT!
The movie is worth the watch, but not the hype. I just hope it does not set a precedent where a slew of such revenge themed movies pop up all of a sudden.
I'd give it 3.5/5! But all the oldies will definitely love the movie, I can guarantee you that cause Dad was unusually quiet. ;) which is his silent nod of approval.
